ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team traveled to Eckerd College on Monday evening looking for a season sweep over the Tritons. Try as they might, the Sailfish were unable to do so as the Tritons made up for a lack luster performance against PBA back in December with a solid shooting performance and a 63-46 victory over the visiting Fish.

Palm Beach Atlantic (6-13) was led by two double-digit scorers with senior Chanell Byrd and freshman Lynsey Poole each pacing the team with 14 points. Both players each added in three steals while Byrd led all PBA players with seven rebounds. Freshman Loren Wilkins put in a career-high eight points as she earned a starting spot.

After a 70-61 victory against Eckerd back on December 19th, the Fish came into Monday’s matchup with confidence although they would be without freshman guard Hayley Fields who poured in 12 points against the Tritons in their previous matchup who was out due to injury.

EC center Olivia Nagle, who paced the Tritons with 26 points in the previous meeting between the two teams was held in check by PBA tonight with only four points on 1-of-6 shooting. The EC guards however did step up to the tune of 17 points from Javiera Novion and Ashley Lutz adding in 15 points. Cierra Harris chipped in 10 points off the bench for Eckerd as she connected on 5-of-6 shots while adding in seven rebounds.

Unlike the last meeting, EC earned the rebounding edge as they pulled down 42 rebounds compared to that of 29 for the Sailfish. EC finished the evening with a 47% shooting percentage (27-58) while PBA was held in check by a tough Tritons defense that limited PBA to just a 30% mark (16-54).

After their busy schedule the past few weeks, the Sailfish will have the remainder of the week off to rest up and get ready for the remainder of their schedule. They will take on Northwood University on Tuesday, January 27th with tip-off slated for 7 pm in the Rubin Arena.
