MELBOURNE, Fla.- Playing their fifth game in a week’s time, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team put together a solid effort on the road on Tuesday evening against the likes of a very talented Florida Tech team. Keeping things close for much of the game, the Fish were unable to get over the hump late and dropped the game to the home-standing Panthers by a final of 65-50.
The 400th career win for FIT head coach John Reynolds, the Panthers (13-2) led for much of the game but never were able to put the Fish completely away as the young PBA squad continued to go at the Panthers.
Freshman point guard Lynsey Poole put together a solid showing as she poured in a career-high 18 points while connecting on 7-of-13 shots from the field and adding in three assists and two steals in 40 minutes of action.
Senior Chanell Byrd just missed out on a double-double as the Mesquite, Texas native went for eight points and eight rebounds. Selethia Jackson, who has turned it on of late for the Fish, took game high honors with 12 rebounds while chipping in seven points.
The Panthers led 30-24 at the half and continued to pressure the Sailfish defensively in order to force turnovers. PBA committed 20 turnovers on the night which led to 28 points for the Panthers, an amount that surely clinched the victory for the home team.
Kristen Dixon and Tamara Dowdell led the way for FIT with 13 and 12 points respectively as the Panthers earned their second straight victory of the season.
After their busy last week of action, the Sailfish will have a few days in which to rest up before hitting the court for more game action. PBA will take on Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida on Monday, January 19th for their next outing. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
