Lady Fish Dominate Ave Maria University in Women's Hoops

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- A 23 point run early in the game on Friday afternoon against Ave Maria University sent the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team to their third straight victory as the Lady Sailfish cruised 65-39 at the Rubin Arena.
Three Sailfish players reached double-figures on the night including a season-high of 18 points from senior Chanell Byrd and a career-high of 16 points from freshman guard Hayley Fields. Byrd put together her second strong performance of the week after pouring in team-high honors with 14 points earlier in the week against the College of Saint Mary. Byrd finished the night 8-of-9 from the field while also pulling down six rebounds and dishing out three assists.
Fields came away with her 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Junior center Kristine Webb was the other Sailfish standout to reach double-figures as she put forth one of her more dominating performances of the season with 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four blocks.
Freshman guard Lynsey Poole added in eight points while earning a career-high with seven steals.
The Gyrenes had 27 turnovers on the night while losing the rebounding battle 34-32.
AMU was led on the night by Miriam Loveland with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Saira Morgan also played well in the post as she registered nine points and six rebounds.
The Fish will look to push their win streak to four games on Saturday as they travel to St. Augustine, Florida to take on Flagler College in a men’s and women’s basketball double-header. The women will suit up at 5 pm or the men’s game at 7 pm.
