Five Men's Soccer Players Named to ICAA Listing

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.- With the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer team preparing for their upcoming trip to the NCCAA National Championships in Kissimmee, Florida later this week, five players were named to the Independents Collegiate Athletic Association listings.

Co-champion of the ICAA overall team title with Columbia Union University after the Sailfish totaled an impressive regular season record of 13-4, the Fish earned the number two overall seed in the upcoming NCCAA National Tournament.

Cheyne Roberts, a sophomore midfielder from Plant City, Florida, was named to the All-ICAA first team along with juniors Daniel Abrahamsohn and Trent Hammon. Both Roberts and Abrahamsohn were first-team selections during the 2006 as well. Roberts paced the Sailfish attack by posting a team-leading six assists while also chipping in nine goals for a total of 24 points. The benefactor of many of Roberts assists was the scoring ability of Abrahamsohn, a native of Pacifica, California who led the Sailfish with 10 goals during the 2007 season.

Also named to the All-ICAA listing were two key players on the defensive side of the ball for the Sailfish: defender Trent Hammon and goalkeeper Joseph Yurchak with Hammon earning first-team honors and Yurchak named as the second-team goalkeeper.

A junior from Islamorada, Florida, Hammon helped anchor a defense which allowed only 17 goals while registering five shutouts.

Starting in goal for the second consecutive season, Yurchak once again posted solid numbers in between the pipes for the up and coming Sailfish program. A product of Lakeland high school, Yurchak finished out the 2007 regular season with a record of 13-4 while totaling five shutouts.

Rounding out the Sailfish honorees was senior Matt Sweesy who was named to the All-ICAA second-team for his solid performance throughout the season. A team leader from Simpsonville, S.C., Sweesy totaled seven goals during the season and consistently proved to be a dangerous weapon for head coach Jose Gomez.

For the second consecutive season, Columbia Union forward Se Eun Park was named the ICAA Player of the Year after posting a solid season of 28 goals and 58 total points. Truman State goalkeeper Kyle Talbot was named the Freshman of the Year while registering the impressive statistical production of a 9-3-1 record, 38 saves, and a .71 goals against average in 13 games while posting eight shutouts.
