ITA Rankings Feature Newton and Both PBA Teams

SKILLMAN, N.J.- Even thought the men’s and women’s tennis season is still a few months away, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has released its initial rankings for the 2007-2008 season with the Palm Beach Atlantic University teams well represented.

Currently ranked sixth in the Southeast region, the men’s tennis team is anchored by the play of senior Brock Newton (Roanoke, Va.) who comes into the preseason listing at fifth in the singles category on the men’s side.

After a solid showing in the fall, Newton will look to capitalize on this momentum heading into the regular spring season. Newton stands #35 in the nation.

Lynn University ranks first in both the regional and national polls while holding the top two in the singles regional rankings with Julien Carsuzaa and Lorenzo Cava respectively.

On then women’s side, the Sailfish pull in with a regional ranking of ninth with Lynn once again taking home the top regional spot.

As the offseason training continues, head coach Chi Ly likes the way his 2008 squad is shaping up.

“It’s nice to see these kids get recognized in the rankings and it’s a nice step for our program,” said Ly.

Both Sailfish squads open up their 2008 campaign by hosting Florida Tech on February 2nd at 12:00 p.m.
