Bolanos, a freshman from Debary, Florida, earned the top performance for the Sailfish over the weekend. In the preliminary round, Bolanos was able to move past Jason Hamidi of host Rollins College due to an injury default. In his quarterfinal match, Luke was able to easily dispose of Florida Southern’s Greg Heartt in a dominating two set victory 6-1, 6-1. Building on the momentum of the quarters, Bolanos took on Stetson’s Gokay Celik in the semifinals. Losing only three games in his previous two matches, Celik had reached the semifinals in commanding fashion. In a grueling match Bolanos was able to advance to the finals over Celik after a hard fought two set victory 6-4, 6-4. In the finals, the great run of Bolanos was ended in a two set loss to Central Florida’s Blaze Schwartz 6-1, 6-1.
In the Singles A Flight, freshman Krasimir Atanasov (Sofia, Bulgaria) had the strongest showing for the Sailfish. Krasimir was able to shake a 6-4, 6-4 preliminary round loss to Njal Stene of Stetson University to defeat Gino Martinez of Flagler College in the Singles A Draw Back 6-4, 6-4.
Along with Bolanos, Junior Tyler Dealy (Colorado Springs, CO.) also achieved success in the Singles B Flight. After losing his preliminary round match to Nick Rowlands of host Rollins College 6-3, 6-4, Dealy rebounded against Britten Vaught of Rollins College in the Singles B Draw Back 6-1, 6-2.
In Doubles Flight A, the tandem of Atanasov and Bolanos lost their preliminary match against the team of Beigart and Rocafort from Central Florida 8-1, but were able to rebound for two solid victories in the Doubles Flight A Draw Back. In the first match, they defeated the duo of Martinez and Maloof from Flagler College 8-5, and followed that victory up with an 8-3 drubbing of Taylor and Bigler from Florida Southern College.
