Sailfish Runners Gain Valuable Experience in Walt Disney Classic

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s cross country team traveled upstate to compete in the 13th Annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic held on October 11th. Amidst Florida’s best Division I and II teams, the Sailfish runners were also exposed to nationwide talent from schools in Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and New York.
Held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, the Invitational was another successful competition amongst top colleges and high schools across the country, according to Disney’s Sports Public Relations Manager Marques Edge. A new record number of competitors were also set this year as over 4,100 entries representing 15 different states battled in this standard 8K race.
Leading the way once again for PBA was sophomore Carter Williams, whose consistency throughout the season has made him a valuable addition to the men’s squad this year. Carter finished the race with a time of 28:44.90, earning him a 141st place position out of over 320 runners.
Also competing for the Sailfish was senior Nick Byrd, who posted his season-best time of 32:09.70 (251st). Kyle Pryce (34:32.50 – 281st), Ricardo Rodriguez (35:23.00 – 293rd), Michael Winters (35:45.00 – 295th), and Stephen Tucker (36:11.00 – 299th) rounded off the PBA participants.
The Sailfish runners will hit the road again next Saturday to compete in their last regular season competition, the Sodexho Hatters Invitational to be held at 4:30 in Deland, Florida.
