DAVIE, Fla.- Coming off a tough 1-0 defeat against the University of Tampa earlier this week, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer team desperately needed a win against a quality regional opponent. They got just that opportunity on Saturday evening as they traveled to Nova Southeastern University and came away with a solid 3-2 victory over the Sharks.

At times this season and especially of late, the Fish have struggled to score early and found themselves in a hole. That wouldn’t be the case tonight as they jumped ahead with two first-half goals before adding a third early in the second-half and holding off a late attack from NSU down the stretch.

Junior Enrico Zanella got things started in the 19th minute as fellow junior Cheyne Roberts found Zanella on a long free-kick after an NSU foul. Robert's boot sailed into the box which found the head of the 6’4” Zanella for an easy deposit into the back of the net.

The next PBA goal would come just before the half, in fact, seven seconds before the half as junior Johnathon Clark placed a free-kick once again near the Sharks goal as Nick Rasek headed the ball past diving NSU goalkeeper Juan Vizcarrando.

Entrusted with a 2-0 lead into intermission, the Sailfish came out even hungrier to start the second period as freshman Johnathon Dupree scored his first collegiate goal on a nifty play near the goal that resulted in the Plant City, Florida native easily pushing the ball in for a 3-0 PBA lead.

Now comfortably in control and nursing a three-goal advantage, the Sailfish would need to quickly refocus down the stretch as NSU struck back for two late goals and cause Sailfish fans some uneasy feelings in the final minutes.

NSU midfielder Romain Onteniente connected for a long kick up field that found a wide-open Nate Dunbar for the Shark’s goal in the 84th minute of the contest which cut the lead to a manageable 3-1 lead for PBA.

Onteniente would be on the other end a few minutes later as he blasted a ball near the 18 on an assist from David Wahlberg.

Despite their best efforts however, NSU would be unable to tie the score as the Sailfish defense would hold strong enough in the final few minutes and escape with a much needed 3-2 victory.

NSU led the shot count on the night by a final tally of 20-16 while PBA controlled much of the tempo in the game with their ball control and overall possession. A physical contest throughout, NSU was whistled for 17 fouls while the Fish were tagged with 14 fouls.

Junior goalkeeper Joe Yurchak, a product of Lakeland High School, came away with his seventh victory of the season while also registering seven saves in goal. Vizcarrando took the loss for NSU as their overall record drops to 7-5-1. Backup keeper Travis Frazier played the final ten minutes in change between the pipes for the Sharks earning one save.

PBA will take the early part of next week away from game action before traveling to Lakeland, Florida for a pair of games beginning Thursday with a date with Southeastern University at a 6 pm start time followed by a 7 pm showdown on Saturday evening at Florida Southern College.
