DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- Hitting the road for the second consecutive weekend, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s cross country team continued to build steam as more runners competed in what was described as a very challenging course. The Fish finished sixth as team in the race.
Taking part in the 5K race at the Asics Invitational presented by Smoothie King, the PBA runners once again proved resilient to the tough racing conditions in their second race of the season.
“We are continuing to build early on in the season and I like the progress the girls are making overall,” said new head coach Staci LaForte after the grueling race.
For the second consecutive outing, Gina Battista finished as the top PBA performer with a time of 26:51.64, good enough for 43rd place in the large field of runners. Sophomore Kelly Schwartz wasn’t far behind as she finished 44th with a time of 26:58.95.
Up next for the Fish was newcomer Jennifer Congdon who finished her race at 27:27.31 followed by freshman Gabby Rosado at 28:28.54. The other racer for PBA was Gloria Flores (30:53.56, 63rd).
PBA will take the next week off as they continue training for their next scheduled meet on October 3rd at the FLRunners.com meet.
