WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Putting forth a lineup of all freshmen and sophomores, Palm Beach Atlantic University tennis coach Chi Ly had to be happy with the strong showing of his women’s team on Saturday as they defeated Florida Tech at Gaines Park.

With the match 2-1 in favor of the Sailfish after doubles play, it would come down to the final set of the afternoon before PBA could secure a 5-4 victory over the Panthers.

“I was really proud of the way we played in doubles and it was a great way to get the season started,” stated Ly after the hard-fought victory.

With the Fish trailing by a tally of 3-4 entering the last two singles matches, the Sailfish would turn to freshman Kelly Schwartz (Richland, Mich.) in singles number five where she proceeded to make quick work FIT’s Annie Brethour by a count of 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Katie Livesay (Dayton, Tenn.) competing at number six singles and a team captain, came through for PBA with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory to close out the match.

The two teams battled all afternoon on a pleasant day at Gaines Park in West Palm Beach, with an audience of family, friends, and some extra special visitors from First Serve, the non-profit tennis training organization that PBA tennis has become very involved with and volunteers tennis-related training.
