SKILLMAN, N.J.- Capping off what has been a historic season for the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s tennis team comes another honor. After becoming the first-ever Sailfish athletic team to qualify for a NCAA regional event, two individuals have been named as Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes. Those two student-athletes are senior Brock Newton and sophomore Lukas Colombo.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Newton will graduate from PBA in December with a degree in Psychology. One of the most highly decorated men’s tennis players in program history, Newton finished out his career ranked in the top-25 of the NCAA Division II national rankings.
Alongside Newton as a Scholar-Athlete is Colombo who hails from Santiago, Chile and is currently pursuing his undergraduate degree in Film Production.
