DALLAS, Texas – Sailfish senior starting pitcher Sean Horner has been name South Region as well as National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for the week of May 2-9. Horner is the first Sailfish baseball player to win National Pitcher of the Week and is the first Sailfish to win the regional award since Nic Kovacs was named South Region Pitcher of the Week in the 2013 season.
Horner dominated the final start of his career on Sunday, as he threw a complete game, one-hit shutout to lead the Sailfish to a 6-0 win over Rollins College. Horner took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before allowing a one-out single, the only hit for the Tars in the game. He finished the game with eight strikeouts, the highest strikeout total of the season for the right-hander. Horner finished the season with a 5-4 record and a 3.75 ERA.
Horner led a Sailfish pitching staff that finished the season with a 27-23 record. The 26 regular season wins against NCAA Division II opponents are the most ever by a Sailfish baseball team, which played a full Sunshine State Conference schedule in their final year of a provisional membership with the conference.
