MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- Nikki Brinegar picked up her tenth win of the year inside the circle as Palm Beach Atlantic defeated the Barry Buccaneers in Miami Shores 4-2 Friday evening. With the win, the Sailfish advance to 31-16 on the year while the Buccaneers fall to 22-27.
Magnolia West and Alexis Guerra paced the offense with a pair of runs batted in each, as Guerra finished as the only ‘Fish with multiple base hits on the night.
Both Brinegar (W, 10-5) and Christie Falcon of Barry matched each other inning for inning through three and a half before the Bucs got on the scoreboard first courtesy of a solo home run off the bat of Jasmine Harris in the bottom of the fourth.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Guerra drove in her first run on the night as she laid down a sacrifice bunt scoring Noelle McGuire to tie the game at one, and West drove in Claudia Pizzarelli on a sacrifice fly to left to give the Sailfish a 2-1 lead.
The ‘Fish extended their lead in the top of the seventh inning after Hannah Carlton led off with a double to center and came in to score on a Guerra infield single. Guerra came around to score the final Sailfish run as West doubled to center, putting the ‘Fish up 4-1.
The Buccaneers scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Sailfish lead in half, but Brinegar battled out of the seventh stranding two runners on base.
The Sailfish and Buccaneers will finish the final two games of their series tomorrow afternoon in Miami Shores with game one scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
