Sailfish Drop Road Match With No. 25 Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis suffered their second straight loss on Saturday, falling to No. 25 Florida Southern 8-1.

The Sailfish (11-11, 2-6 SSC) were only able to pick up a win at No. 3 singles as Romina Bolagay earned a straight sets win over Selin Devrimci 6-4, 6-0. PBA weren’t able to take another set in singles play despite Florencia Roncatti forcing a tiebreak the fifth position. Roncatti couldn’t overcome Lola Asis, however, falling 7-6, 6-0.

In doubles play it was Bolagay and Michaela Mignemi who narrowly were defeated as the duo moved up in the lineup to second spot. Despite their best effort Bolagay and Mignemi lost for just the fourth time all season as Asis and Linnea Skymberg pulled out the 9-7 victory. Also in doubles, Leoni Polzin and Taylor Conti were paired together for just the fifth time this season and were defeated 8-4 by Devrimci and Sasha Nionova at number one.

The Sailfish will travel to Melbourne, Fla. to take on Florida Tech in the regular season finale on Friday, April 14. The winner of the match will be the eighth and final team to qualify for the SSC Tournament. Friday’s match is scheduled to begin at noon.
