WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis couldn’t pull the upset on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 29 Saint Leo 7-2 at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.

The Sailfish (10-9, 2-4 SSC) got off to a good start, taking two of the three doubles matches but were shutout in singles action with five of the six singles matches being settled in straight sets.

Both Sailfish doubles victories came by the same 8-4 score as Valerie Nagovitcina and Taylor Conti improved to 5-0 at number one when paired together. Down at number three it was Romina Bolagay and Michaela Mignemi who improved to 13-3 overall together with a win over Kristyna Jurkova and Fabiola Cardenas.

Nagovitcina was the lone Sailfish to win a set in singles as she battled against nationally-ranked No. 23 Marine Beugre-Guyot at the top of the lineup. Beugre-Guyot took the opening set 6-3 but Nagovitcina bounced back to win the second 7-5 before dropping the third 10-8.

The Sailfish will have a quick turnaround as they take on Embry-Riddle on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Daytona Beach.
