WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – For the second straight match the No. 49 Palm Beach Atlantic men’s tennis team battled a team in the top-five and for the second straight time came up short, losing to No. 3 Saint Leo 9-0 on Saturday.
The ‘Fish (11-6, 1-4 SSC) kept it close in doubles but were unable to steal a point, falling at both number one and two by the score of 8-6. In singles the Lions (9-3, 4-1 SSC) showed their strength at the top of the lineup as all three nationally-ranked players were winners in straight sets.
Pato Zarazua forced No. 14 Thomas Grinberg to a tiebreak in the first set, 7-6 (7-1), but Grinberg pulled away in the second to win 6-1. Phillip Hoffmann hung with No. 33 Jaime Bueno in the first but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-2. At the second position Rafael Lenz was outmatched by No. 45 Vincent Suillerot 6-0, 6-2.
The road doesn’t get much easier for the Sailfish as they take on No. 10 Embry-Riddle on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Daytona Beach.
