Women's Tennis Snaps Skid, Slams Eckerd 8-1

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis snapped a two-match skid with an 8-1 win over Eckerd College on Sunday afternoon at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center. The ‘Fish improved to 2-3 in league play with the win and 10-8 overall.
The Sailfish won all three doubles by the same 8-2 score and in singles only lost seven games in the top five singles flights. The duo of Valerie Nagovitcina/Taylor Conti improved to 3-0 on the season as they won at number one while two new pairings won at number two and three. Leoni Polzin and Maja Jovic teamed up for the first time this season and won at number two while Michaela Mignemi and Dezi Bowman also teamed up for the first time, winning at number three.
In the middle of the singles lineup Conti and Mignemi not only won in straight sets but shutout their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Both players are the team leaders in wins as Mignemi picked up her 12th victory of the season and Conti earned her ninth.
Seniors Nagovitcina and Jovic won by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores as Nagovitcina won for the eighth time and Jovic earned her second win. Polzin was also a winner on the day, picking up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number two.
PBA will be back in action on Saturday, April 1 as they host No. 29 Saint Leo at 1 p.m.
