Streak Ends For Sailfish in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. – After winning five straight times the Palm Beach Atlantic men’s tennis team had their winning streak snapped as the No. 38 Florida Southern Mocs won 6-3 over the No. 49 Sailfish at the Warden Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
Three singles matches went the distance and all three doubles matches were decided by two games as PBA fell to 10-4 overall and 0-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Mocs improved to 8-6 and 2-1 in league play.
PBA was able to pick up a point in doubles with Bernardo Ferreira and Rafael Lenz earning their team-leading ninth victory of the season at number one. The duo took down Laurent Mailloux and Miguel Alvarez-Hevia by a score of 8-6. The ‘Fish were unable to pull out victories in the other two doubles matches as the Mocs won 8-6 at number two and 9-7 at number three.
In singles play it was Thomas Salmon the only one to win in straight sets for the ‘Fish. He defeated Oscar Soderlund 6-4, 6-2 at number six as Salmon improved to 8-3 overall and 6-2 at the sixth spot. Bernardo Ferreira was also a winner in singles play, going the distance against Mailloux at number four. For Ferreira it was win number 10 in his freshman season as he won 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4.
The Sailfish return home to the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center on Sunday to take on Eckerd College at 2:30 p.m.
