Sailfish Upend No. 28 Indiana (PA)

ORLANDO, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis won their second straight on Friday evening, defeating No. 28 Indiana (PA), 6-3. The win is the first over a nationally ranked team this season.

The Sailfish (8-6) have now won five of their last six after starting the season 3-5. This time it was a big showing in singles that helped propel the ‘Fish to the win. PBA took four points in singles, winning three in straight sets.

Valerie Nagovitcina got her season record back to .500 with a long three-set victory at the number one spot. She took down Jarka Petercakova 7-5, 5-7, 11-9. She was also a winner in doubles, partnering with Taylor Conti to defeat Petercakova and Luise von Agris – the #15 doubles team in the nation – by a score of 9-7.

Conti won for the seventh time this season in singles with an easy 6-2, 6-3 victory at number three. Romina Bolagay and Michaela Mignemi were also winners in both singles and doubles. The duo were partners down at number three, defeating Sophie Butland and Katya Minchenkova, 8-5. Bolagay cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in singles while Mignemi picked up her team-leading 10th singles win, 6-2, 6-4 over Minchenkova.

PBA returns to the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center on Saturday to take on St. Thomas at 1 p.m.
