Women's Tennis Slips Past Javelinas, 5-4

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A day after losing a match 5-4 the Sailfish women’s tennis team picked up a victory by that same score, defeating the Javelinas from Texas A&M – Kingsville at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.

The Sailfish (7-6) swept through doubles in three tight matches. The number two match was the first off the court with Maja Jovic and Valerie Nagovitcina improving to 3-0 as a tandem this evening. That duo won 8-5 over Tabata Lua and Lisa Carvajal.

Down the lineup at number three doubles it was Romina Bolagay and Michaela Mignemi picked up their 10th win of the year with a 9-7 decision over Erika Larrea and Vivian Ortiz. At number one Leoni Polzin and Taylor Conti went to a tiebreak but were able to take down Valerie Ruiz and Victoria Romanovskaia, 9-8 (7-4).

In singles play Nagovitcina picked up a straight sets win at number one, 6-1, 6-1, over Carvajal. The senior earned her sixth win of the season and fifth at the top spot in the lineup. Mignemi won her seventh in a row and ninth of the season with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Ortiz.

The Sailfish will take on No. 28 Indiana (Pa.) on Friday in Orlando before returning home to take on St. Thomas on Saturday at 1 p.m.
