Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic hit three solo home runs Monday, but was unable to come away with a victory as they fell to No. 10/11 Southern New Hampshire University 5-3. The ‘Fish have lost three of their last four games and fall to 14-9 on the season. The Penmen improve to 10-3.

The Sailfish got off to a good start in the game, as starting pitcher Sean Horner worked out of a couple jams to keep the Penmen off the board in the first three frames. All the offense early was provided by senior Sean Visconti, who hit solo home runs in the first and third innings to give the Sailfish a 2-0 lead. The homers were Visconti’s first two of the season.

SNHU scored one run in the fourth inning, and really did some damage at the plate in the fifth inning, as they scored four runs in the inning on just three hits. The big blow came with two outs, as Cam Oliveira singled to center field, scoring two runs. Kevin Fry (Loss, 0-1) gave up three runs in the inning as he takes his first loss of the season.

The Sailfish cut into the Penmen lead in the sixth inning, as Andrew Calderone hit his second homer in as many games to cut the deficit to 5-3.

The Sailfish threatened in the seventh inning, as they loaded the bases with one out and chased the SNHU starter from the game. Visconti hit into a double play however which ended the Sailfish threat.

After great relief work from Kyle Polaski who retired all seven batters he faced, the Sailfish tried to put a rally together in the ninth inning. Marcos Perez led off with a double to right center field, his second hit of the game. The Penmen retired the next three Sailfish hitters in order to end the game and seal the victory.

Perez and Visconti were the lone Sailfish to pick up multi-hit games, as the ‘Fish will now set their sights on American International College, who will come to Rubin Park on Wednesday, March 15. The Sailfish have played the Jackets three times in the past two seasons, and have had walk off victories in all three contests. Game time Wednesday is set for 6 p.m.
