'Fish Take Down Chowan In Rain Shortened Match

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – PBA women’s tennis earned their first victory on their week-long trip to South Carolina, knocking off Chowan University 5-2 in a rain-shortened match.

The Sailfish (3-4) and Hawks (3-4) played singles first with expected rain on the way. The ‘Fish used their depth to win at No. 3-6 to take a 4-2 lead into doubles play. In doubles play Romina Bolagay and Michaela Mignemi picked up the 8-1 victory at the third position to give the ‘Fish the team win.

Both Bolagay and Mignemi were also winners in singles play with Mignemi having the easiest victory on the day, 6-1, 6-2. Mignemi leads the team with four wins this season. Bolagay picked up her third victory with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Maja Jovic was also a winner on the day, needing three sets to take down Anna Makhneva, 6-4, 4-6, 10-1. Taylor Conti was also a winner with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 win at the third spot. For Jovic it was her second win of the season and Conti’s third.

The Sailfish hit the court again on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. match against Tusculum College.
