WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Kayla Knight tripled twice and drove in three runs as the Sailfish won 7-0 over Rollins in Friday night’s home opener. Palm Beach Atlantic (8-6) picked up 10 hits on the night while Ashton Adkins and Nikki Brinegar kept the Tars (6-7) offense at bay.
Knight led off the first inning with her first triple and later scored on a double to left center by Magnolia West. A few batters later, Maddie Bertisch added the second Sailfish run of the inning as she singled home a run with a bunt base hit.
The Sailfish offense exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Knight picked up her second triple of the game clearing the bases to put the ‘Fish up 5-0. Claudia Pizzarelli later drove in Knight on an infield single to add cushion to their lead, and West capped off the inning with an RBI triple of her own to put the ‘Fish out in front 7-0.
West led the way in hits for the game as the freshman had a perfect 4-for-4 night at the plate. The Carmichael, Calif. native collected two extra-base hits while scoring a run and driving in a pair.
With her two triples in Friday’s win, Knight now has four on the year and 14 overall in her career.
