Eagles Too Much For 'Fish On Senior Night

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball was unable to come away with a victory on senior night, falling to Embry-Riddle 66-62 in the home finale.
The Sailfish fell behind big early before taking a lead into the fourth quarter. The ‘Fish (8-17) fell behind 23-10 after the first quarter before storming back over the next 20 minutes to take a three point lead into the final period.
PBA led by four midway through the fourth but Embry-Riddle scored the next seven points to take a three point lead. The Sailfish were never able to retake the lead. A late surge by the Eagles (0-0) gave them a five point lead in the final 30 seconds.
Caroline Patrick knocked down one of her three triples to cut the deficit back to two, but the Eagles converted their final four free throw attempts to seal the game.
PBA used a 17-2 run in the second quarter to tie the game at 27-27 after trailing by as much as 15 in the first half. The Sailfish trailed by one at halftime.
Hannah Grim led the way for PBA with 18 points, four assists and five rebounds. The junior knocked down 7-of-12 from the floor and made two from long range. She scored 11 of her points in the first half including five during that second quarter run. Patrick added 13 points off the bench, making three 3-point field goals. Katie Meckus didn’t score in the game but provided a team-high eight rebounds and solid interior defense.
Senior Nikkira Brown continue to have a solid ending to her final season, scoring 15 points in 30 minutes of action. Brown made 6-of-8 from the floor. Fellow senior Ayanna Holmes finished the game with five points and seven rebounds.
The Sailfish will close out the regular season on Saturday at Florida Tech. The ‘Fish are in a three-way tie with Lynn and Saint Leo for the final two spots in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. Tip time in Melbourne is set for 2 p.m.
