Women's Basketball Turned Away By No. 21 Eckerd on Saturday Afternoon

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball was unable to pull off the upset on Saturday afternoon, falling 86-58 to No. 21 Eckerd College.

The ‘Fish (8-16, 4-13 SSC) fell behind early and were never able to recover against the Tritons (21-4, 14-2 SSC). PBA scored the first basket of the game but Eckerd responded with an 11-0 run to seize control of the game. The Tritons pushed their lead out to 17 by the end of the second quarter.

Hannah Grim and Nikkira Grim each had six points for the Sailfish in the first half. Brown finished the game as the team’s leading scorer with 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting. She also made 7-of-7 at the free throw line as the team went 18-of-24 at the stripe. Grim finished with 10 points as did Ayanna Holmes.

The Sailfish struggled from the floor, shooting 34.6 percent from the floor in the game including a 24.1 percent clip in the first half. PBA made only 4-of-15 from the 3-point line in the game with Jane Svilberg knocking down a pair from the outside. Svilberg finished with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The ‘Fish are currently on the outside looking in for the SSC Tournament at 4-13 in league play. They are half a game behind Saint Leo for the 8th and final spot in the tournament with Lynn a game ahead with Saturday’s game against Florida Southern still yet to be decided.

PBA will return home for the final time this season, hosting Embry-Riddle on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Sailfish seniors will be honored before the game.
