Women's Tennis Knocks Off Carson-Newman To Open Season

ORLANDO, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis started their season on Saturday on a positive note, defeating Carson-Newman 8-1 in a match played at the USTA National Campus.
The ‘Fish swept through doubles with Romina Bolagay and Michaela Mignemi picking up the biggest win of the day, 8-2 at No. 3. Taylor Conti and Maja Jovic were also victorious on the day with an 8-3 win while Valerie Nagovitcina and Leoni Polzin had a little more trouble in their 8-6 win at No. 1.
In singles play the Sailfish only dropped two sets in route to five straight sets victories in the match. Bolagay was the first off the court at No. 4 after winning 6-2, 6-1. Mignemi secured the match for PBA with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6.
The ‘Fish also picked up victories from Nagovitcina, Conti and Jovic on the day. Nagovitcina was pushed in the second set, winning 7-5 after taking the first 6-3. Jovic had to battle to win over Lindy Tatum, going the distance in both sets to win 7-5, 7-5. Conti didn’t drop a game in the second set, winning 6-3, 6-0.
PBA opens up their home portion of the schedule on Sunday, hosting No. 12 Flalger at 1 p.m. at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
