No. 46 Sailfish Victorious In Season Opener

ORLANDO, Fla. – The PBA men’s tennis team opened the 2017 season on Saturday with a 7-2 win over Carson-Newman at the USTA National Campus.
The Sailfish took all three doubles matches and then had the first two singles matches go their way to secure the team win. PBA ended up taking the top four singles flights in the match.
In doubles play Pato Zarazua and Pietro de Silva had the widest margin of victory, winning 8-2 at No. 2. Philipp Hoffmann and Thomas Salmon won 8-3 while Rafael Lenz and Bernardo Ferreira fought off Rodolpho Schwarz and Stefano Daza for an 8-6 win at No. 1.
Ferreira and Hoffmann dropped only three games during singles action with each picking up their first wins as Sailfish. Hoffmann took down Schwarz 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 while Ferreira defeated Daza 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. Zarazua needed a tiebreak in the first before picking up the straight sets victory at No. 1 as Lenz avoided the tiebreaker in each set, winning 7-5, 7-5 at No. 3.
The Sailfish are back in action on Sunday as they host No. 33 Flagler at 1 p.m. at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
