WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic overcame a slow start on Wednesday to defeat Barry University 68-52 to snap a three-game slide.
Barry (5-18, 3-12 SSC) took a 28-25 lead in the second quarter but the ‘Fish (8-14, 4-11 SSC) scored 17 straight to take a 42-28 lead into halftime. Freshman Chloe Doxey came off the bench to score 10 points in the first half as the bench scored the first 15 points in the game for PBA after the starters turned the ball over on their first four possessions. All five were subbed out as the five bench players pulled the ‘Fish back in the game and tied things up at 15-15 on a three from Taylor Buchanan.
The Sailfish trailed by two after the first quarter and took their first lead early in the second before embarking on that 17-0 run over the final 5:46 of the first half. The Bucs were never able to get the margin back into single digits as PBA pushed the lead out to 21 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Both teams struggled shooting the ball in the second half as the ‘Fish made just 10-of-35 from the floor and Barry made only 8-of-27. Ayanna Holmes scored seven of her nine points in the second half and also finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
Hannah Grim led the way for PBA with 18 points in the game, connecting on 8-of-14 from the floor. She added six rebounds and three assists. Nikkira Brown scored 11 off the bench including making all four free throws as the ‘Fish converted 7-of-9 at the line in the game. Brown also led the team with four assists. Doxey scored all 10 of her points in that first half including hitting a pair from the outside.

The Sailfish have three games remaining that will count towards the league standings: Saint Leo, at Eckerd and at Florida Tech.
The Sailfish will have a week off before returning to action next Wednesday, Feb. 15, against Saint Leo at 5:30 p.m. inside Rubin Arena. The ‘Fish knocked off the Lions back on Dec. 30 in overtime, erasing a 13-point deficit in the final three minutes.
