Sailfish Drop Road Affair in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball suffered a setback on Saturday night, falling to Florida Southern 88-60 inside Jenkins Field House. The Sailfish will look to snap out of their three-game slide on Wednesday against Barry.
On Saturday the Sailfish (7-14, 3-11 SSC) were led by Taylor Buchanan who scored 13 points off the bench. The senior scored 12 of the team’s 30 points in the second half but the ‘Fish were never able to get back in the game after a late run by the Mocs (14-7, 10-3 SSC) in the first half.
PBA led for nearly two minutes in the first half as the game was tied four times and saw seven lead changes in the first 16 minutes. With 3:43 to go in the second quarter Rachael Holehouse scored her only two points of the game to tie it up at 27-27 but from there the Mocs scored 16 of the next 19 points to take a 43-30 halftime lead and never looked back.
Buchanan finished the game 5-of-9 from the floor overall and made 5-of-6 from inside the arc. Mina Salhia made 4-of-8 from the floor to finish with 11 points and she added five rebounds. Hannah Grim pulled down a team-high six rebounds and added 10 points. Ayanna Holmes was held to six points and six rebounds.
The Sailfish shot 38 percent for the game and made only 1-of-8 from beyond the arc. The Mocs connected at 45 percent overall and made 8-of-24 from long distance. The teams combined to shoot 43 free throws with the Sailfish making 15-of-20 and the Mocs knocking down 20-of-23.
PBA returs to Rubin Arena on Wednesday to host Barry University at 5:30 p.m. The ‘Fish took down the Bucs in Miami Shores on Jan. 11 by a final score of 88-86.
