Holmes and Warthen Named Buffalo Wild Wings Student-Athletes of the Month for January

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic’s sports information staff has named senior women’s basketball player Ayanna Holmes and sophomore men’s basketball player Bakari Warthen the Student-Athletes of the Month for January. Holmes posted a double-double for the month while Warthen was the team’s leading scorer over the seven games in January.

Holmes (Jupiter, Fla.) finished the month averaging 17.1 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game. She had three games where she recorded a double-double with her biggest game coming against Eckerd on Jan. 4. In that game against the Tritons she poured in 23 points while pulling down 18 rebounds. She followed that up with 14 points and 15 boards the next game against Rollins.

Warthen led the team during the month with 14.6 points per game, shooting 51.3 percent from the floor. In addition he grabbed 4.3 rebounds per game and handed out 13 assists, had four blocks and collected eight steals. His biggest game came against Lynn on Jan. 25 where he scored 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting and had one highlight worthy dunk over 6’9” Vieux Kande.

The men’s basketball team will host Florida Southern on Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Rubin Arena while the women will be in Lakeland to take on the Mocs at 5:30 p.m.
