WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic suffered their second straight defeat on Wednesday night, falling to Nova Southeastern 79-65 inside Rubin Arena.
The Sailfish (7-13, 3-10 SSC) were led by Hannah Grim’s 23 points but shot just 39 percent in the game as the Sharks (14-7, 10-3 SSC) shot 52.8 percent. The ‘Fish took an early 6-2 lead as they forced the Sharks to play a fast-paced game, pushing the tempo on both ends of the floor. After NSU took a 17-12 lead late in the first but a 6-0 spurt by the ‘Fish put them back on top. A three with just seconds to go in the quarter gave the Sharks a 20-18 lead after one period.
PBA kept things within reach in the second quarter as Nikkira Brown scored 10 of her 14 points in the opening half. The senior got inside and got to the free throw line, making 4-of-6 in the half as the ‘Fish made 9-of-14 at the line in the first half.
A six-point halftime deficit quickly turned into a 15-point hole as the Sharks started the second half on a 12-3 run. An early run in the fourth quarter gave the ‘Fish their best chance at a comeback as they outscored Nova 11-2 over a three minute stretch. The Sharks pushed the margin back out to double digits over the next few moments as they didn’t allow another comeback opportunity for PBA.
Grim added six rebounds in addition to her 23 points, shooting 9-of-17 from the floor. Brown added 14 points off the bench as Ayanna Holmes was able to score seven of her 11 in the second half to finish with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Sailfish’s leading scoring had a tough night, making just 4-of-16 from the floor. The Sailfish finished with three assists in the game compared to 17 for the Sharks.
