WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic couldn’t make it two straight on Saturday, falling to Rollins College 75-65 inside Rubin Arena.
The Sailfish (7-12, 3-9 SSC) were held to just 37 percent shooting on the day despite Ayanna Holmes and Hannah Grim combining for 35 points. Holmes added 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season.
Rollins (13-6, 8-4 SSC) and PBA saw five ties in the first quarter despite the ‘Fish never taking a lead. PBA was able to take their first lead early in the second quarter as Holmes scored inside. Grim followed it up with a basket of her own to give the ‘Fish a 22-19 lead that was matched a few minutes later before the Tars took the lead for good with 4:48 to play in the second quarter.
The Tars pushed their lead out to double digits early in the second half where it stayed until PBA made a 6-0 run midway through the final period to bring the margin back to seven at 62-55. Taylor Buchanan scored four of her nine points during that stretch as the Tars answered with seven straight points to put things out of reach.
The Sailfish had 18 points off the bench led by Buchanan’s nine. Fellow senior Nikkira Brown added eight points off the bench including knocking down two of the team’s six triples. PBA finished 6-of-23 from long range while the Tars show 5-of-15 from downtown. Rollins finished the game at 40.9 percent from the floor.
