WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Sailfish snapped a two-game losing streak on Wednesday, defeating Lynn University 64-49 inside Rubin Arena. The ‘Fish improve to 7-11 overall and 3-8 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Fighting Knights fall to 8-10 and 3-8 in the SSC.
PBA never trailed in the game and led for all but two minutes as they picked up their second win of 2017 behind 20 points from Hannah Grim. Grim made 9-of-18 from the floor and pulled down six boards as she continued to push the ball quickly up the floor for the ‘Fish. PBA used that aggression to score 14 fast break points to just two for Lynn.
Grim was aided by Jane Svilberg and Ayanna Holmes who each scored 10 points. Holmes added a team-high eight rebounds as the Sailfish outrebounded Lynn 44-35. PBA shot 45 percent for the game while holding Lynn to just a 32 percent clip. The Fighting Knights made just 2-of-18 from long range while PBA was just 2-of-9.
Lynn cut the Sailfish lead down to two at 24-22 with 6:07 to go before halftime and after a Sailfish timeout the ‘Fish went on a 13-0 run to seize control, never looking back. The closest the game got was 11 points early in the third quarter but the ‘Fish scored four straight to push the lead back to 15. Late in the fourth quarter the Sailfish took their largest lead of the game at 21 points.
Mina Salhia added seven points for the ‘Fish while Nikkira Brown added five points off the bench. Taylor Buchanan scored four points also off the bench as PBA tallied 15 bench points to just 10 for Lynn. Both teams turned the ball over more than twenty times but the ‘Fish converted those Lynn turnovers into 14 points while Lynn managed just eight.
The Sailfish return to action on Saturday as they host Rollins College at 2 p.m. in Rubin Arena. The Tars knocked off PBA in the first meeting of the season, 85-54.
