'Fish Hold Off Bucs For 88-86 Road Win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball snapped out of a two-game slide with an 88-86 win over Barry University on Wednesday night. The Sailfish improved to 6-9 overall and 2-6 in SSC play.

The Sailfish were led by Ayanna Holmes and Hannah Grim who each scored 22 points. The ‘Fish led by 12 in the final quarter but had to rally in the final minute to pick up the victory. After letting the lead slip away it was Rachael Holehouse who found room inside along the baseline and dropped the ball off to Ciara Cumbie who found a hole and was able to finish inside. Jane Svilberg made one of two free throws down the stretch and the Buccaneers missed on their final chance.

The first quarter saw 12 lead changes before the ‘Fish took a 25-24 lead early in the second quarter on a jumper by Grim. From that point the ‘Fish led until inside the final minute. Grim scored 14 of her 22 in the first half as Holmes also added 14 in the first 20 minutes.

The Sailfish got a nice boost from Mina Salhia who added 15 points including a pair of triples. Cumbie finished the game with nine points, playing the final minute with Holmes on the bench after fouling out. Holehouse added eight points, five rebounds and six assists.

PBA outrebounded the Bucs 34-29 with Holmes and Svilberg leading the way with eight each. Grim added seven of her own to go along with five assists. PBA finished the game with an assist on half of their 32 made field goals, shooting 48 percent from the floor. The ‘Fish connected on 7-of-17 from downtown and 17-of-22 at the free throw line.

The Sailfish are back in action on Saturday as they return home to host Florida Tech at 2 p.m.
