Men's Basketball Falls On Road to Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic suffered their second straight loss against a Sunshine State Conference team on Saturday, falling 59-47 to Rollins College inside Warden Arena. The Sailfish fall to 7-7 overall and 3-4 in SSC play while Rollins improves to 8-7 and 2-4 in the SSC.
The 47 points for the Sailfish is a season low as the ‘Fish shot just 39 percent for the game. Both teams combined for 45 turnovers and only 38 made field goals. The Tars shot only 40 percent overall but were able to make 9-of-25 from long range while the Sailfish made just 4-of-20.
Bakari Warthen was the lone ‘Fish to reach double digits in points as the sophomore scored 10 off the bench. He made 4-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-6 from beyond the arc. Shavanno Cooper added eight points as the Sailfish scored 24 points off the bench. Nine players scored for the ‘Fish with six making at least two field goals.
The ‘Fish took their only lead in the opening moments of the game as Michael Stones scored off of a steal. From there the Tars scored eight straight to take an 8-2 lead. A three from Warthen and a dunk from Malek Barber brought the ‘Fish within one at 8-7 but the Tars answered with an 11-0 run to push their lead into double digits for the first time.
After PBA cut the margin to six in the first half they went into halftime down 31-23. Early in the second half the Tars pushed their lead back into double digits for good as they led 41-27 at the first media timeout. The ‘Fish only brought the deficit under ten in the final two minutes before Rollins again pulled away.
The Sailfish are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to No. 10 Barry for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
