JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic men’s basketball team took on NCAA DI University of North Florida in an exhibition contest Monday night at the UNF Arena. In the end, the ‘Fish fell 102-67, but were led by Malek Barber on the night as the sophomore finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
The Sailfish and Ospreys opened Monday’s exhibition matching each other shot for shot over the first seven minutes of play, with the ‘Fish leading for the majority of that time. North Florida took their second lead of the game at the 13:19 mark courtesy of a Dallas Moore dunk, swooping momentum in favor of the Ospreys. UNF held on to their lead for the remainder of the half, but the ‘Fish kept it close, as it was a 47-38 score at the half.
North Florida opened the second half on a 21-8 run over the first six minutes of the half to spread the gap to 68-46, before eventually spreading the gap even further towards the final score of 102-67.
Trey Koonce finished the night for PBA with 12 points while snagging four rebounds, and Bakari Warthen finished with 11 points of his own.
The Ospreys had six players reach double-digit scoring, and were led by Moore’s 23 on the night. Moore was honored just prior to half time as the senior was recognized for scoring his 2,000th career point.
With Monday’s contest being an exhibition, the outcome does not effect the regular season numbers for Palm Beach Atlantic. The ‘Fish have a quick turnaround as they open their 2017 Sunshine State Conference schedule on Wednesday night, Jan 4 at home in the Rubin Arena as they host the Eckerd College Tritons.
