Sailfish Fall In Semis to Alaska Anchorage

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Palm Beach Atlantic’s quest for a second-straight trip to the NCAA championship match came up short on Friday night, falling to No. 6 seed Alaska-Anchorage 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 25-17, 25-22) in the semifinals.
The Sailfish battled back after dropping the first set to take the second after falling behind 6-0. A string of three straight blocks by Emma Ballantyne and Olivia Finckel gave the ‘Fish the lead for good in the set as they took a 15-12. Both players finished with five blocks as the ‘Fish tallied 14.5 in the match.
After being tied 6-6 early in set three the Seawolves took advantage with five straight points and the Sailfish never able to dig out of the hole. They pulled within two at 16-14 but UAA hit .361 in the set and took a 2-1 lead into the fourth set.
In the fourth the Seawolves again turned a tie game into a big lead with a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead. They led 23-17 before PBA scored five straight to pull back within a point at 23-22 but UAA scored the final two points to end the Sailfish season at 32-4.
The Sailfish hit just .092 for the match, the lowest since the first match of the season. Freshman Olivia Finckel led the team with 13 kills with Ally Rohn adding 11. Molly Burkhardt tallied 36 assists and eight digs while Susie Forbes led the team with 24 digs. Rohn added 18 digs of her own with Katie Ballantyne contributing 11. Sarah Ragland collected nine blocks with Abby Palkert adding four.
