Sailfish Lose First Half Lead, Fall to No. 19 Mocs

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball came up short on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 19 Florida Southern 70-55. The ‘Fish went cold in the second half, shooting just 36 percent as they lost for the second straight game.

Hannah Grim led the way for PBA (3-5, 0-4 SSC) with 15 points, scoring 13 of those in the first half. The Sailfish took advantage in the second quarter with a 16-0 run over four minutes to take a five-point lead. Grim broke a tie late in the quarter as the ‘Fish into halftime with a 32-30 lead.

PBA kept the lead until the Mocs (5-2, 3-0 SSC) Giulia Simioni connected from long range to give FSC a 51-48 lead just over a minute into the third quarter. The ‘Fish never recovered from there, as the Mocs closed on an 11-3 run to end the game.

Rachael Holehouse added 10 points for PBA as the senior made 4-of-11 from the floor. She added four rebounds and two assists as the Sailfish had only eight assists on 21 made field goals. The Sailfish made only two from beyond the arc, shooting 2-of-7 from out there on the day. Nikkira Brown and Grim were the only ones to connect from long range.

The Mocs shot it well from outside, making 7-of-14 from downtown and converted 21-of-25 from the free throw line. The Sailfish made 11-of-16 at the line as Ayanna Holmes scored four of her six points from there.

Ciara Cumbie led the team with eight rebounds before fouling out. The Sailfish were outrebounded on the afternoon 41-27 as the Mocs grabbed 13 offensive boards and turned them into eight second chance points.

The Sailfish hit the road again, travelling to Embry-Riddle on Dec. 9 for a 5:30 tilt against the Eagles.
