Sailfish Drop Road Tilt to Spartans

TAMPA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team dropped a Sunshine State Conference road tilt to the University of Tampa Wednesday evening, falling by a 65-50 final score. The Spartans took an early lead, which extended to a 13 point halftime lead. The ‘Fish were unable to overcome the deficit in the second half, dropping to 3-4 on the season and 0-3 in SSC play.
PBA was unable to get much going in the first half, shooting just 31 percent from the field. Mina Salhia and Ayanna Holmes both tallied six points in the half, which led the ‘Fish. On the other side of the ball, Tampa was red hot in the opening 20 minutes, as they shot an even 50 percent from the field, and over 30 percent from long range.
The second half was more of the same, as Tampa outscored the Sailfish 32-30 in the half. The Spartans shot 43 percent from long range in the half to seal the victory. Elena De Alfredo led the Spartans with 22 points on the night, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range.
Ayanna Holmes led the ‘Fish in scoring as the senior poured in 18 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Salhia added 10 points for the Sailfish in her 37 minutes of play. Hannah Grim continued her solid play, as the junior scored 11 points and added 2 assists. Rachael Holehouse led the Sailfish with four assists on the night, adding five rebounds and three points. The Sailfish protected the ball, only committing nine turnovers on the day, while they were able to force 13 Spartan turnovers.
The Sailfish will be back in action Saturday, December 3 as they will play host to No. 19 Florida Southern College. The game is scheduled to tip at 2 p.m.
