Coutinho Named D2CCA All-America Honorable Mention

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Lucas Coutinho of Palm Beach Atlantic men’s soccer team was honored Wednesday afternoon as he was named NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) All-America Honorable Mention.
This is the second year in a row the D2CCA recognized Coutinho as the Recife, Brazil native was named to the All-America Second Team in 2015.
The senior finished the 2016 season second on the team in points with 16, scoring three goals and dishing out 10 assists. While PBA players were not eligible to lead Sunshine State Conference statistics as provisional members, Coutinho’s 10 assists in 2016 was the most in the SSC. The Sailfish finished 7-1-1 against members of the SSC, earning the No. 1 seed in the SSC tournament. PBA finished the 2016 season 13-5-1, advancing to the NCAA South Region Championship match.
Including Coutinho, the Sunshine State Conference had five student-athletes named to the D2CCA All-America teams. Jack Watson of Lynn and Hanno Antoni of Barry were named to the second team. While Thomas Coombes of Barry and Fredinho Mompremier of Tampa join Countho on the honorable mention list.
The 2016 D2CCA National Player of the Year was Nathan Regis of Pfeiffer University, who also won the award in 2015.
Sports Information Directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences sponsoring men’s soccer selected the D2CCA All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team All-Region picks advancing to the national ballot. A total of 39 student-athletes were recognized on the three All-America teams, with an additional 16 earning honorable mention.
