PBA Closes The Regular Season With 28 Straight Wins

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – For the 28th straight time this season the Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball came away with a victory, defeating Saint Leo 3-1 on Saturday in the regular season finale for both teams.
The No. 10 Sailfish overcame a slow start in set one, trailing 7-1 early to come back late and take the opener 25-23. After dropping the second set 25-17, the ‘Fish bounced back to take set three 25-17 and set four 25-16. The ‘Fish close out the regular season with 28 straight wins after dropping the opening three matches of the season.
Ally Rohn collected 22 kills, her fourth 20-kill match this season, to lead the Sailfish. She hit at a .391 clip in the match and also added seven digs, three blocks and two assists. She was joined by Sarah Ragland who had 12 kills and hit .320 for the match with six blocks.
The Sailfish hit .304 as a team and hit at least .282 in every set. Saint Leo hit .552 in the second set with 18 kills but just .239 for the match as they were led by Britt Sederholm’s 15 kills and .387 attack.
PBA was down 7-1 in the first and later trailed 19-13 before starting a late rally. The Sailfish scored four straight and never let the Lions score more than one point at a time, closing the set by winning 12 of the final 16 points including the final two. Rohn picked up her third kill of the set to give the ‘Fish set point before teaming up with Ragland to get the block on the set’s final point.
In the second the ‘Fish were only able to score back-to-back points one time as the Lions pulled away from a 9-9 tie to take a 20-14 lead before the Sailfish called a timeout. PBA was only able to pull within five before the Lions won the final three points to even the match at one set each.
In the third the ‘Fish came out strong, taking an early 7-1 lead of their own and later used a 6-0 run to take control at 18-9. Rohn had two kills in the run and finished with eight in the set. She added seven more kills in the final set as the ‘Fish used a 7-1 run midway through to take a 20-11 lead.
Emma Ballantyne added nine kills on 15 attacks for the sailfish and also had seven digs and four blocks. Molly Burkhardt led the team with 27 assists and added four kills and four digs while Susie Forbes collected 14 digs to lead the team.
The Sailfish are expected to be the top seed in the South Region but will find out officially on Monday at 7:30 p.m. during the NCAA Selection Show. The show will be streamed live online at NCAA.com. The South Region Tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday, Dec. 1.
