Charlie Dennis Leads The Sailfish Past Florida Tech 2-1 to Advance to Regional Title Match

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- No. 18 Palm Beach Atlantic men’s soccer team gets to see another day after defeating the Florida Tech Panthers 2-1 at the Rinker Athletic Campus Sunday afternoon, advancing on in the NCAA postseason tournament. Junior Charlie Dennis lead the way for the Sailfish, as the midfielder scored both goals, moving the ‘Fish on to the Sweet 16

Dennis got things going in the 16th minute of play as he blasted a shot from 20 plus yards out to put the ‘Fish out in front 1-0 over the Panthers. The goal was assisted by Farias Juarez, his fourth on the year.

Following the 16th minute goal, the ‘Fish controlled the pace of play for the remainder of the first half, outshooting Tech 4-2 in the half. The opening half saw no corners, and only one save, picked up by Palm Beach Atlantic.

Momentum slowly started shifting in favor of Florida Tech in the second half, as the Panthers started controlling the game. In the 63rd minute, FIT’s Luca Campanini ripped a shot that was saved by PBA’s Elliott Barker that was unfortunately deflected directly to Hugo Lopez, capitalizing and scoring his third goal of the season.

With time dwindling down to the final ten minutes of regulation, Dennis struck again. Dennis’ ninth goal of the year gave the Sailfish 2-1 advantage, the final score of the game. Cameron Roberts picked up his second assist of the season on the play.

For the third time this season, Barker earned five saves in the contest. Earning the win, the freshman goalkeeper advances to 12-2-1 on the year.

With the win, the ‘Fish now sit at 13-4-1 on the year and they will travel to Wingate, N.C. to take on SSC foe No. 14 University of Tampa in the NCAA South Region Championship match on Friday, Nov. 18. Wingate N.C. will also host No.1 Wingate as they take on No. 8 Pfeiffer in the Southeast Region Championship match also taking place on Friday, Nov. 18. The winner of PBA/Tampa will battle the winner of Wingate/Pfeiffer on Sunday, Nov. 19 for a spot in the NCAA Semifinals in Kansas City, Mo.
