Men's Basketball Opens 2016-2017 With 68-49 Road Victory Over Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s basketball team opened their 2016-2017 campaign in fashion Friday afternoon, defeating Tuskeegee University 68-49. This is the third consecutive season under head coach David Balza in which the ‘Fish opened the season with a win.
De'Ondre Jackson lead all scorers in the game, as the freshman from Youngstown, Ohio finished with 21 points. Sophomore Bakari Warthen was the only ‘Fish to finish the evening in double figures, as the West Palm Beach native scored 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds and picked four steals on the day.
The Sailfish never struggled in Friday’s contest, as they lead the entire contest. The ‘Fish ended the game shooting 35.8 (24-of-67) percent from the floor and 17.6 (3-of-17) percent from downtown. The Blue and White also shot 60.7 (17-of-28) percent from the free throw line, while grabbing 51 rebounds.
On the defensive side, the ‘Fish kept the Tigers shooting 25.8 (16-of-62) percent from the field. As a team, the ‘Fish swatted seven shots on the night, with Lucas Morales pacing the way with three of his own.
Sophomore Malek Barber grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, with nine of them coming on the offensive side. The North Port, Fla. native also finished with seven points and an assist on the afternoon.
The Tigers failed to have any player reach double-digit scoring in the contest, and were led by Joshua Culver’s eight points and nine rebounds.
The Sailfish play two more games on the road before making their 2016-2017 Rubin Area debut, as they head south to Davie, Fla. to take on Nova Southeastern on Wednesday evening, Nov. 16 with a scheduled tipoff of 7:30 p.m. The ‘Fish then head south again on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 19, but this time they only head down the highway to Boca Raton to take on Lynn University, with a scheduled tipoff of 4 p.m. the Blue and White return to the Rubin on Tuesday, Nov. 22 as they host the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon ay 7:30 p.m.
