WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – For the 24th straight time the Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team came away victorious, defeating Nova Southeastern 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) on Tuesday night in Rubin Arena.
The Sailfish improve to 24-3 on the season while Nova drops to 11-16. The ‘Fish hit a season-high .373 in the match, racking up 50 kills and just nine errors. Ally Rohn led all players with 15 kills, hitting .342 in the match. She paced the team in both the first and second sets with six kills in each set.
Four other players had at least six kills in the match for PBA with both middle blockers Emma Ballantyne and Sarah Ragland picking up eight in the match. Ballantyne’s eight kills came without an error on 11 attempts, a .727 attack percentage. Olivia Finckel had seven more and Abby Palkert collected six on just 10 attempts.
It was a late surge by the ‘Fish in each set to lift them to victory, turning a 13-13 first set into an 18-13 lead and later pushing it out to 21-14. In the second it was 19-19 but PBA scored six straight points as Rohn collected three kills during the run. A similar story unfolded in the third as the set was tied 14-14 after a kill from Nova’s Katie Pyles. From there the ‘Fish was three of four forcing a timeout. Out of the break a big block by Ragland and Molly Burkhardt continued the PBA momentum as they ended up pushing the lead to 21-15.
Burkhardt added another block to finish with two to go along with 36 assists and 13 digs. Susie Forbes finished with 12 digs and three assists. Rohn added eight digs as Katie Ballantyne and Lauren Alberti each had six.
The Sailfish are back in action on Thursday to host Florida Tech at 7 p.m. before going on the road to Melbourne to face the Panthers again on Friday at 7 p.m.
