Sailfish Place 12th, Rickenbach Takes 2nd at South Region Championship

ST. LEO, Fla. –
Freshman Cami Rickenbach qualified to the NCAA National Championship race in two weeks with a second place finish at the South Region Championships on Saturday at The Abbey Course. The national race will be at the same course on Nov. 19.

Rickenbach posted a time of 22:27 on the 6K course, more than two minutes faster than her race on the same course back in October. She was only outpaced on the course by Saint Leo’s Collett Rampf who won the race in a time of 21:54.

Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras was the team champion with 75 points, placing three in the top-six. The Sailfish finished 12th with 274 points. Saint Leo and Lee will join Lee and P.R.-Rio Piedras at the national championship as the top three teams.

Sara-Caitrin Mandelburg finished 36th with a time of 24:06 as 12 runners finished within 30 seconds of each other. Madison Troyer placed 54th for the Sailfish in 24:40 with Sophia Miller running a 25:39 and placing 82nd. Jessica Lykins ran 27:12 with Rhian Romanik running 27:19 and Hope Kanagy running 27:49.

Rickenbach is the first Sailfish to qualify for the national meet since Faith Warren in 2012 and is just the third-ever runner to run in the race.
