WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The NCAA has released their first Regional Rankings for the 2016 volleyball season with the Sailfish on top of the South Region. PBA is riding a 21-match winning streak and is currently rankedNo. 12 by the AVCA.
The Sailfish are on top of the region with an 18-0 in-region record and have the best RPI and strength of schedule in the country. PBA is followed in this first ranking by Saint Leo, Tampa, Eckerd and Florida Southern. West Florida from the Gulf South is followed by fellow conference rivals North Alabama and Shorter. Lynn and Barry round out the ten teams ranked.
PBA was the top-ranked team in the region a year ago and hosted the South Region Tournament for the first time, ultimately winning their first region championship and advancing to the National Championship Match.
Bob White’s squad returns to Rubin Arena for six of their final seven matches, first by hosting Rollins and Embry-Riddle on Friday and Saturday. The Sailfish will honor seniors Emma Ballantyne and Katie Ballantyne before Friday’s match against the Tars at 7 p.m. Saturday’s match with the Eagles is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
