No. 12 PBA Sweeps Eckerd To Win 21st Straight

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The No. 12 Sailfish keep winning and winning. Palm Beach Atlantic defeated Eckerd College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to win their 21st straight match, tying the school record for consecutive victories.

The Sailfish improved to 21-3 on the season with the win while the Tritons fell to 15-8. Sarah Ragland and Ally Rohn led the way with 12 kills each as Ragland hit .579 for the match. The Sailfish as a team hit .359 including a .417 clip in the second set. Ragland finished the match with five blocks while Rohn added eight digs.

Emma Ballantyne continues her hot streak with eight kills on 12 attacks, hitting .583 to just top Ragland as the most efficient hitter in the match. Olivia Fincel added six kills for PBA and also four blocks. The team had nine blocks in the match led by Ragland. Four players had at least three blocks as Molly Burkhardt and Ballantyne each had three.

Burkhardt set up the offense with 41 assists and added five digs to go along with her blocking effort. Susie Forbes led the defense and was the lone Sailfish in double figures with 14 digs. Katie Ballantyne added eight and Lauren Alberti had seven.

PBA trailed in the first set 21-18 before taking a timeout and starting a 7-1 run to close the set capped off by Rohn’s fifth kill of the set. In the second the ‘Fish had a 6-1 run to go up 14-9 and from there never allowed the Tritons to score more than one point at a time.

It was another quick start in the third as the ‘Fish led 9-4 early and closed with five of six points including three kills from Abby Palkert. She finished the match with three kills on three attempts.

PBA returns home for six of their final seven matches including Senior Night on Friday against Rollins at 7 p.m.
