Rohn, 'Fish Reach 20 Mark in Win Over Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 12 Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team continued their winning ways on Friday night, defeating No. 24 Florida Southern for their 20th straight victory of the season. The Sailfish knocked off the Mocs 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 29-27, 25-17) as they sweep the season series with Florida Southern.

The Sailfish hit .394 in the final set as the offense was locked in all night long. PBA hit .273 as a team while holding the Mocs to a .195 attack. Ally Rohn led all players with 20 kills, hitting .250 along the way. It is her third 20-kill match of the season. The sophomore added 13 digs and three blocks.

Freshman Olivia Finckel had her biggest output of the season, collecting 14 digs and an impressive .375 attack percentage. She added three digs and four blocks as the team collected 11 blocks on the night. Emma Ballantyne added 11 kills with zero errors and a .524 attack. She also had a team-high six blocks on the night.

The offense was set up all night by Molly Burkhardt who registered 52 assists and four kills in the match. It’s the fourth time this year she’s gone over 50 assists in a match. The sophomore added 19 digs as well. Susie Forbes notched 24 digs to lead all players, adding four assists, three aces and a kill.

PBA used big runs in the first and fourth sets, scoring six straight in the first to open a 20-13 lead and added a 5-0 run in the fourth to take an early 7-3 lead. That run was part of a bigger 8-1 run and was followed later by four straight points for the ‘Fish to take control 18-10.

The Sailfish hit .267 in the first set and held the Mocs to a .091 attack in that set. PBA hit over .220 in every set while the Mocs did so in just the second and fourth sets. Florida Southern had their best offensive output in the second where they collected 19 kills and a .255 attack.

The win is the 20th straight for the Sailfish this season after dropping their first three of the year and is the fourth time in program history that PBA has won 20 in a row. The PBA record is 21 set in 1998 and matched in 2012.

The Sailfish close out the weekend at Eckerd on Saturday at 4 p.m. PBA defeated the Tritons earlier this season in Rubin Arena, 3-0.
