LAKELAND, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic got a much needed win Friday evening, defeating the Florida Southern College Mocs by a 1-0 score at Barnett Field. The win ends streak of one-goal losses for the ‘Fish, as they had lost four matches in a row by only one goal apiece. PBA improves to 5-8-1 on the season, and to 2-5-1 in Sunshine State Conference play. Florida Southern drops to 1-9-2 on the season.
The first half was a struggle for both offenses, as the teams combined for only five total shots. Four of those shots came by the Sailfish however, as they controlled possession for most of the half. Isabelle Granlund made one save in the half on the only shot attempt she faced.
It was in the 59th minute where the Sailfish broke the scoreless tie, as senior Karina White scored for the second match in a row, heading in a cross from Bridget Wollrabe for her third goal of the season. White also broke a scoreless tie on Wednesday evening against No. 12 ranked Rollins College.
The Sailfish defense was stingy on the night, only allowing eight Moc shot attempts all evening, and finishing their fifth shutout of the season. Granlund finished with three saves on the night, two coming in the final minutes of the match. Six Sailfish played the entire 90 minutes on Friday evening.
The ‘Fish will play their last match of the season, and finish their tough stretch of six matches in 13 days to finish the season, on Sunday afternoon against Saint Leo University. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
