TAMPA, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic men’s soccer team picked up a key win Wednesday night in Pepin Stadium at the University of Tampa, as the No. 12 Sailfish defeated the 23rd ranked Spartans 3-0 on their senior night. The ‘Fish advance to 11-3-1 on the year, and 6-1-1 in Sunshine State Conference play.

The first half was all PBA, as the ‘Fish scored twice, out-shot Tampa 16-5, took four corner kicks to UT’s 1, and the Spartans committed eight first half fouls to PBA’s two.

Felipe Clavijo struck first for the ‘Fish, scoring his fifth goal on the year in the 17th minute. Clavijo’s goal was set up by a cross from Lucas Kuscevic that was tipped by Kebba Nyang right to Clavijo inside the box.

The Blue and White extended their lead ten minutes later as Lucas Coutinho blasted a shot that was deflected by Spartan goalkeeper Richard Trench right to the foot of Charlie Dennis, who capitalized on the opportunity scoring his team-leading seventh goal on the season.

The second half was more even on the stat line between both teams, but the ‘Fish were able to extend their lead to three in the final ten minutes, as Fredo Dilbert scored his fourth goal of the year in the 84th minute. Dilbert’s goal came inside the box and was assisted by Dennis, his sixth assist of the season.

Elliott Barker (W, 10-1-1) tallied four saves on the night, bringing the freshman to 28 on the year en route to his third clean sheet of the season.

With the win, the Sailfish move back into second place in the SSC with one game left to play. The Sailfish will host Saint Leo University Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
